Overview

Foundation

The Society was founded in 1933 to foster scientific and industrial progress in the fields of electrochemistry and industrial physical chemistry. The intervening years have seen rapid changes in both academic and industrial environments, with important increases in the scope covered by the discipline of electrochemistry, as well as in the circumstances affecting the industry. The Society continues to monitor these developments, remaining responsive to this rapid progress, and making continuing contributions to advances in this field.

Activities

Ordinary General Meeting

Ordinary General Meeting is held on February in Tokyo.

Publication of "Electrochemistry", the Journal of the Society

In its journal, the Society publishes original articles and notes written in English or Japanese by authors active in the disciplines of electrochemistry and industrial physical chemistry, and in related industrial fields, along with reviews, commentaries, research materials, statistics and discussions aimed at the dissemination of new information and at continuing re-education. "Electrochemistry" (entitled "Denki Kagaku" until 1998) has, over the years since 1933, achieved a respected position as a scholarly journal.

Conventions

The Society's conventions, held in the spring and autumn of every year, are the most important opportunities for members to announce and discuss the results of their research, and the large number of members - engaged in both research and engineering - who attend these forums for exchange of opinions makes them a continuing success. The various Branches also hold regional meetings which function primarily for the announcement of new research.

Lectures and Discussion Groups

Through support or joint support of specialized committees, the Society and its Branches sponsor lectures and discussion groups on such topics as molten salt chemistry, battery technology, electronic materials, corrosion-proofing, electrode reactions and the like.

Branches and Liaison Offices

Japan is served by seven regional Branches - Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, Hokuriku, Tokai, Kansai, and Kyushu. The Branches organize their own functions, including lectures, seminars, symposia, and study tours.

Divisions and Research Groups

Members involved in specific fields, such as battery technology, molten salt chemistry, electronic materials, corrosion-proofing, high-temperature chemistry and the like have established specialized committees to carry out activities of interest in their field.

Research and Engineering Symposia

In order to promote joint research, investigation and development concerning topics of special promise, the Society organizes research and technical symposia on subjects covering the fields of biochemistry, properties of materials, energy technology, and so on.
